All you need is a vision

 

When times are good, anyone can win.  When times are tough, the smartest and most proactive win.  Smart restorers will use these times not only to take a look at their strategy, people and processes, but also to make hard decisions that will make their restoration firms stronger down the road.  

In October, CDRG reached out to all its team members, scheduling calls with each of them.  Restoration business owners made themselves available to chat.  Our conversation made us reflect on what our true vision and long term goal is.  The current opportunity for CDRG is to get closer to our customers.  That means developing a better understanding of our team members individual goals and the obstacles they must overcome to reach those objectives.   Being closer to the customer will allow us, over time, to improve both profitability of our team members and the service they deliver to their customers.  But getting there requires a full restructuring of our procedures.  This includes hiring administrative support staff to support our next level of growth and determining which region should have their own regional office so that they can spend more time on our customers home turf. 

We are taking a big step and decided to take  our leadership team on a Seven-city tour, visiting almost 25% of our team members.  Starting from Moncton, Sherbrooke, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and leading us to finish in Vancouver in mid February. It cost us more money and more time out of the office, but a worthwhile investment in a more effective culture.  All told, " getting closer to the customer and team members" is a huge step in uncertain times.  But it's the right thing for the brand, and it will make us much stronger as a group in the long run. Tough decisions are never fun to make, but that's where the learning and growth comes from.  I've seen the leadership team at CDRG grow more in the last 6 months than I ever have in years prior.
