CDRG Reducing our Carbon Footprint with GPS Technologies
Organic Growth Through Commitment to Quality and Unparraleled Customer Service.
The evidence leaves little doubt; mankind has damaged the planet and its ecosystems. We often hear about our “carbon footprint” and how we should reduce it, but what is a “carbon footprint”? A carbon footprint is a measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide. These include emissions caused directly and indirectly by an individual, organization, event or product.
While the topic of “greening” supply chains has been a hot topic for several years, many companies involved in service-driven industries are still overlooking many obvious and cost-efficient methods of reducing their business's carbon footprint. CDRG, in an effort to become more cost-efficient, combined with a desire to reduce our carbon footprint, is working in tandem with an Ottawa based company called Aalto Technologies to introduce GPS technology in our company vehicles. This will be a pilot project for CDRG Head office in Ottawa.
Their system is an essential vehicle and driver productivity-tool that is designed for easy practical use by small and large businesses. Here are some of the benefits:
Increases productivity by providing better management of the existing resources
Accurately reports where and how drivers spend their time.
- Reduces fuel and maintenance costs through the monitoring of vehicle abuse and aggressive driving behaviour. Also serves as a maintenance reminder tool.
Records speed, distance traveled, idling time, maintenance schedules, customer visits, trips, stops, illegal entry zones, illegal stops, exception rules, and route planning.
Reduces vehicle / cargo theft and general vehicle abuse through its powerful reporting capabilities and has an accident feature that downloads all the data one hour prior to the accident.
But more importantly, the system will allow CDRG members to be more efficient in our travels by reducing unnecessary idling. Consequently, we believe it will reduce our collective carbon footprint by over 20 percent in the next year. The less time spent idling means less amounts of CO2, or greenhouse gases, released into the air. This technology allows us to increase cost effectiveness by saving gas, and be environmentally friendly at the same time.
Next week: we will be announcing a newly awarded membership in Valleyfield Québec.
CDRG's strength as a coast to coast Canadian Network of Independent Restoration Specialists is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with 1650 restoration experts, an average of 18.8 years in business and 260 million in annual volume – it's safe to say our strength lies in our members. The rigorous CDRG selection process only chooses members which meet the highest industry standards. All of our 150 locations are experienced and equipped to meet all challenges put before them. No job is too big or too small for CDRG members.
