Run to The Hills!
CDRG is pleased to welcome several new team members into the 2010 RED TEAM
Ottawa — November, 2009 — Fear-mongering, media-hyped health campaigns, and a bottleneck of information are leading to mass confusion and mass frustration for Canadians. A virus no bigger than ten nanometers has all levels of government scrambling to reassure all 33 million of us about the benefits of immunization, and more importantly the safety the vaccine for the H1N1 virus, known better as the Swine Flu.
Following the Auditor General's report, which came out following the first wave of the virus, Mrs. Sheila Fraser concluded that "Canada needs to have a planned and co-coordinated approach in place so that federal, provincial and municipal agencies know what part they will play in managing a crisis,". Her report comes amid intense criticism from Federal opposition parties and the general public on the troubled roll out of the H1N1 vaccine, purchased and distributed by Federal government to the provinces.
If we step back a little and play devil's advocate to those who put forth these negative comments, Canada is still ahead of the game in comparison to the rest of the world's H1N1 vaccination plan. Immunizing against the Swine Flu is considered the largest vaccination campaign in Canada's history. There is no surprise that we should expect minor problems. Nowadays people are quick to lambaste the government over how long it's taking to get the vaccine but no matter what the government does it is never going to be good enough. If we look at the big picture, coordinating the logistics of educating and immunizing 33 million people is no small feat. The fact of the matter is, complaining won't get you the vaccine, but standing in line will.
Once this whole story blows over, we will surely appreciate the efforts of our government to serve and protect Canadians, no matter where they fall in the Health Ministry's priority schedule.
One could also create a parallel with our own industry. During a catastrophe, restoration providers mobilize resources to handle the overwhelming surge in claims. Our primary goal is to always provide a quick and efficient service to policyholders but naturally resources become stretched both on a human and financial level. For this reason, like the Federal government, we have created Catastrophe protocols and, in our case the CDRG Red Team, to assist member companies whose resources may be at capacity. Our CAT experiences have taught us, not unlike the Canadian government, that no matter how prepared you are, you can never be too ready. Being prepared is the best strategy of all!
