Stimulated by Change
Change, the featured topic in this article, is an inexhaustible word: the more you think about it, the more aspects emerge. Changing the restoration industry has always been a one of the goals of CDRG. As Canada’s Independent market leader in the disaster restoration of fire and water damage, we continuously deal with the issue.
Through change we keep discovering new potentials that help us to get ahead. Change requires us to continuously tweak our trade, expand our professional knowledge, and acquire new areas of specialisation. When customer needs change, we must adapt and innovate. As the business world changes we must discover untried niches in the restoration markets, and expand our service levels. And there is more to do still; new environmental conditions like climate changes, have an enormous impact on our work. Attitudes towards the environment have changed, and in consequence so must we look to new methods of cleaning and remediation of the disasters we encounter. And finally, we are changed by the experience of dealing with people who have had their perfectly normal everyday lives suddenly disrupted by disaster. Being able to help in these instances and return things back to normal becomes a great motivator in our work, as does our endeavour to act professionally at all levels.
Change and difference can also be unifying. However different our members may appear in each part of Canada, there is tremendous cohesion within the group across all provinces. This is a crucial factor in changing the restoration industry. This only works when you have a living network such as the one CDRG has built across Canada. It is the only way to tap the know-how required, for example, during emergency restorations of a high profiled, flooded, 40 story hotel in downtown Toronto at short notice, or to convince one of the largest banks in Canada of our expertise with our catastrophe Red Team, and it also has something to do with professionalism when the head of our technical support, Art Johnson from Canstar Restoration, travels the country and abroad to give advice on running a successful restoration business. Disaster Restoration is a science in itself; and science does not sit still. It is demonstrated in our day-to-day operations, where disaster methods are modified and streamlined, and where most importantly, our members learn to master their trade. Commercial clients and insurance companies are aware of this expertise and willingness to change our approaches based on the clients and disasters we encounter. Without change, you encounter stagnation. CDRG is vibrant and growing; we encourage new and innovative methods, and will try new approaches. That is our mandate.
